Jessie James Decker........................Born Jessica Rose James, Decker's somewhat exotic birthplace was a product of her being raised in a military family. Decker's parents emigrated to Louisiana during the decade of the 1990s. Decker won a regional talent competition with a rendition of Patsy Montana's I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart at the age of only nine. Decker relocated to Georgia around the age of 15. She began writing songs and she was making frequent trips to Nashville. In search of an agreement, she met with music publishing houses and record labels. In her early teens and the Big Yellow Dog Records representative was able to hear her voice and started selling her songs to labels as well as musicians. Decker was signed to a deal with Island/Def Jam after Mercury Records' president David Massey passed her demos to L.A. Reid, head of Island/Def Jam. Her first album a self-titled album under the name Jessie James arrived in August 2009. Jessie James enjoyed a modest amount of success and Wanted reached the Top 40 on the Singles Charts. Decker is always considered a Country artist, however the album made and promoted it with pop audiences in mind. Decker fought against the label for more control over her music after two other singles did not succeed. Her subsequent album, Boys in the Summer was a more traditional album. Decker launched her sophomore album under two different titles: Sweet American Dreams or Daughter of a Gypsy. Mercury shelved it following the initial three singles failed to make it onto the charts for country music. Decker then was let go from the contract.
